Saronic Islands Rib Cruise
This three day RIB cruise expedition takes you out across the Saronic Gulf to the cascading harbour town of Poros, past the rugged bays of Hydra with its marble clocktowers and old captain's mansions, and on to Spetses, where the seaside tavernas overlook the rugged hills of the Peloponnese. Along the way, you'll be able to mingle with likeminded travellers or you can make it a private tour to crank up the romance. And that's not even mentioning the secluded beaches only our experienced pro skippers know about, rustic islets like Angistri, and history-rich Aegina with its ancient temples.
Day 1 Friday -
Athens to Poros & Hydra
Our luxury buses transport you straight to the marina of Athens. There, we rumble up the engines of our private RIB boat and hit the open seas. The Saronic Gulf whizzes by and you’ll watch as salt-washed fishing towns shoot past as if in a montage.
Soon, you reach Poros. It’s one of the most handsome islands clinging to the eastern edge of the Peloponnese. After mooring up in the harbour, you can wander the fuchsia-strewn streets in search of local surprises as recommended by your guide. Then, we reveal the soft-sanded bays – Askeli and Monastiri are two of the best.
For dinner, we push on to Hydra. Hailed as the jewel of the Saronic Gulf, this one’s whitewashed port is steeped in seafaring history. There are centuries-old captain’s mansions and gorgeous Orthodox monasteries that silhouette on the hills, not to mention some of our favourite tavernas in the region.
Day 2 Saturday -
Hydra to Spetses
We spend today living the life of real island hoppers. Waking up in Hydra’s handsome port, there’s just time for a gritty Greek coffee before RIB-ing out to discover hidden little coves and beaches all around the coast. You’ll have plenty of chances to snorkel and swim straight from your seat in the boat.
Later in the day we move to Spetses. There’s no shortage of concealed swimming spots to dip in while the sun sets there, while the main town is a maze of narrow lanes and alleys, topped with neoclassical mansions, and filled with the scents of sizzling fish fresh from the grill.
Day 3 Sunday -
Aegina Angistri Athens
We don’t hurry back across the Saronic gulf to Athens. Filled with the laid-back vibes of the Greek islanders, we take our final day slow. There are two glorious destinations on the menu: Aegina and Angistri. The first is steeped in ancient history – you should be able to see the colonnades and bulwarks of 5,000-year-old Kolona from the boat as you sail in. Then comes Angistri, ringed with inlets filled with aquamarine water, and fringed with groves of verdant pine trees.
You’ll finish your trip with a private transfer straight back to Athens International Airport.
